B2B marketers project more spending next year; most growth online

November 24th, 2009 Posted by: Bill Gadless

It’s been quite awhile since we’ve been able to report some unabashedly good news like this, so here goes…

Nearly 40% of B2B marketers plan to increase spending next year!

Almost half plan to keep budgets flat, while just over 13% plan to cut them next year.  All this is according to BtoB’s “2010 Outlook: Marketing Priorities and Plans” report, which is based on an online survey of 376 marketers.

No surprise, the largest increases will be in… online, including website development, email marketing, search, social media, online video and webcasts.  Direct marketing and events are also slated to see increases.

The top goal for next year (once again):  customer acquisition.  There also seems to be a heightened seriousness about measuring ROI and developing processes that make marketing more efficient …reflecting one of the “good” lessons that are generally learned in tough times.

“We don’t want to waste any money going after social media or advertising opportunities that don’t make sense,” said Mark Wilson, VP – Corporate Marketing at Sybase.  “We have developed very measurable and productive expense management (processes).  In 2009, we made it a science;  and we will continue it next year.”
